Thieves target Kloof SPCA’s tea garden
The local animal charity has called on its supporters to make a donation towards its security upgrade.
THE Kloof and Highway SPCA, a local non-profit organisation, is reeling after a group of criminals targeted one of its main sources of income early this morning.
Barbara Patrick, the NPO’s manager noted the charity had only just survived a difficult and challenging 2020 and the criminals had targeted the heartbeat of its fundraising efforts: Marilyn’s Tea Garden.
The thieves damaged the building’s brickwork when they tore open the thick burglar guards and smashed windows to gain access.

“This was a well-executed break in, we are grateful that no animals or staff were harmed, although our Tea Garden cat, Baby, was traumatised when we arrived,” said Patrick.
The thieves stole valuable electronic equipment and the NPO will now need to fork out from its donations to upgrade its on-site security.
While the organisation is insured, it has requested for residents to make donations towards its security upgrade.
“We fundraise daily to ensure that we can fulfil our mandate to prevent cruelty to animals. Our Tea Garden is critical and we should not have to spend hard-earned money on security. We have zero tolerance for anything or anyone who steals from our SPCA,” said Patrick.
