Sassa KZN: 3183 temporary disability grants to be reinstated
If you are over 59 years old or fulfil the required criteria, your temporary grant will be reinstated by Sassa.
SPOKESPERSON for South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), Sandy Godlwana confirmed there is good news on the horizon for some who recently saw their temporary disability grant lapse.
“Some of the Temporary Disability Grants that had lapsed will be reinstated soon,” said Godlwana.
In December 2020 Sassa KwaZulu-Natal suspended 43 861 medically related lapsed grants comprising 40 875 Temporary Disability Grants (TDG) and 2 986 Care Dependency Grants (CDG).
Godlwana said the recipients who were affected were notified that in order to continue receiving the grants they would have to reapply at a Sassa office.
However, in order to reduce the influx of the number of clients visiting the offices by the end of March 2021, Sassa KZN decided to reinstate 3874 of the lapsed temporary disability grants in order to ensure that the region swiftly finalises the reapplication process.
“Reinstatement will be for 59-year-old clients, those receiving a disability grant together with a Grant in Aid grant due to the nature /seriousness of their disability and those who have nominated procurators and administrators for their social grants,” said Godlwana shortly before the announcement on Tuesday.
Godlwana also reminded grant applicants that they did not have to go into a Sassa office to apply for the R350 Covid Relief grant but could do it on their mobile phone.
