Alverstone Manor knitters spread a little warmth

A handful of caring residents at Alverstone Manor banded together to knit jerseys, blankets and beanies for children in need.

RESIDENTS of Alverstone Manor, a care home based in Hillcrest, combined their efforts to bring about dozens of smiles when they donated jerseys to the children at the Esibusisweni Creché in KwaNyuswa in the Inanda Valley.

A group of talented ladies at the home knitted the donation of woolen jerseys, beanies and blankets over a few months and they were ecstatic to learn of the children’s excitement when they received the donation.

Esibusisweni Creché is a place of love and safety for about 23 children, who are between two to 12 years old. It is supported by the Shap Shap NPO, who also helped facilitate the handover from Alverstone Manor.

Trish Adams, the manager at Alverstone Manor, who was at the handover, said, “Even in their advanced age, our residents still love contributing and they were so happy to give to this amazing little creché. It’s so important for them to feel like they can still add to society as it gives them a sense of purpose and is important for their well-being.”

Adams said Alverstone Manor has been in operation since 2008 and charitable causes are a key aspect of the home.
