2020 was the final year of teaching for three exceptional educators, Engela Uys, Johan Bothma and Helene Hendey, who dedicated more than a decade to Waterfall College.
Since its establishment in 2004, Waterfall College has been blessed with highly-skilled and experienced staff, who have contributed enormously to the development of the school and the success of its students. The school recently bid a fond farewell to three of its longest-serving teachers.

Both Uys and Bothma joined the Afrikaans department at the school in 2006, when the school had fewer than 40 learners in total. Today, there are more than 200.
“I know that I have grown as a person, all because of Waterfall College’s diverse student body, the wonderful staff and management team and being part of a school that is already taking its place with pride among far bigger and longer-established schools in our area,” said Bothma.
The school’s principal, Jeanette van der Merwe, thanked Uys and Bothma for their contribution to the school and wished them both a happy retirement.

Hendey joined the College in 2013 as the head of physical sciences and is well-known for her high academic standards. Despite the many challenges faced in 2020, one big positive was the kick off for the construction of a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) centre for the College.
“We look forward to a visit from Hendey in 2021, to show her the brand new physical sciences and life sciences laboratories that will be completed next year. We thank her for the role she has played in championing the physical sciences at our school,” concluded van der Merwe.
