Pinetown gate battery thieves apprehended

The two men were positively identified while they lined up for food at a church's feeding scheme.

TWO gate battery thieves were apprehended in Pinetown yesterday when they sought refuge at a church’s feeding scheme project in Josiah Gumede Road.

“Caught two suspects, one armed with a modified weapon struck, in my Pinetown neighbourhood again,” said ProAct Neighbourhood Watch’s Andreas Mathios.

“This crime is one of the highest recorded stats in 2020 and the judicial system must revise its sentencing process.”

A former patroller from Cowies Hill Park spotted them in the line at the feeding scheme.

Mathios said the CCTV footage confirmed their identities.

A weapon was found in their possession as well as the stolen battery.

“While good Samaritans were praying for the homeless, two residents spotted the suspects stand in the queue for food and divine intervention. Instead they ended up being positively identified in this gate battery theft,” said Mathios.

SAPS and Blue Security were on scene. Mathios said the two men are repeat offenders.
