Kloof Rotary club looks forward to 2021

THE Rotary Club of Kloof hosted its annual Christmas party at the Kloof Country Club on Tuesday, 1 December.

During the evening, Glenys Dore, the past president handed over the reins to current president, Reg Courtney as they were unable to do the official handover due to Covid 19 restrictions.

Dore said even though this has been an unusual year, they were able to continue some of their work in the communities.

” We have provided significant funding to the Philakadi Care Home in Embo and also built classrooms, a staff room and a toilet block for the new technical high school in the Shongweni valley,” she said.

Courtney said they were looking forward to new beginnings, new hopes, and new good things.

“It has been a difficult year for Rotary, but we can only be optimistic regarding 2021. Some things have continued, and one is a major project for Kloof Rotary which our diligent members have been continually working on which is Inchanga Technical High School workshops for mechanical and hospitality grades.

He added that exciting plans are in the pipeline for all their Rotary activities to resume again in 2021.

The Rotary Ann's were also part of the event and the past president, Wendy Scorgie also did an official handover to current president, Gill Collinge.

Collinge said she wished to thank the public who supported their collection of food outside Checkers.

“The collection of goods for the hamper packing was very successful. We managed to pack the required number of hampers again this year. This was mainly due to the wonderful support received from our community for their kind donations. We are extremely grateful to everyone for their on-going interest and to the hard working team who made this happen,” said Collinge.

The food hampers are then given to children over school Christmas holidays when the schools cannot feed the learners as they usually do during the school term.

“The actual hampers this year are the best the Ann's have ever packed and is something the Kloof Rotary Ann's can be very proud of,” said Collinge.
