Highway community shares bucket loads of Christmas cheer
The Kloof Rotary Anns have thanked the community for helping provide more than 70 per cent of the goods needed to create hearty Christmas hampers.
WITH the help and support of the Upper Highway community, the Kloof Rotary Anns were able to pack 120 food buckets for its Christmas hampers outreach project this year.
“We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the donations received, both monetary and in-kind, toward hampers for needy learners’ families. A particular word of thanks must go to the management and staff of Checkers Gillitts who allowed us to man a trolley for donations of food from the general public over two weekends,” said Gill Collinge of the Kloof Rotary Anns.
The public’s kindness and generosity was overwhelming and amounted to approximately 70 per cent of the cost of the bucket contents.

The team from Kloof Rotary Anns gathered in a community hall and packed each of the 120 food buckets. Added to this were packets containing clothes, backpacks, caps, water bottles and toys, with a value of R200 per packet.
“The 20 litre buckets used were not only sturdy, but contained clear pictorial information on how to keep safe during the Covid pandemic and also what should be done if a person became sick,” said Collinge.
The hampers were handed over to identified learners recently.
