West Park staff pitch in to beautify their garden

Ending off 2020 with some hard work and green fingers, staff at West Park School are hoping the new year will bring even more opportunities to green the world around them.

STAFF and learners at West Park School in Queensburgh got their hands dirty to eradicate overgrown weeds which followed the prolonged lockdown.

Principal Les Perumal, who initiated the garden day also got stuck in. The plan is for the garden days to become a regular occurrence at the school which caters for learners with a wide range of learning and developmental difficulties.

“Our principal, Mr Les Perumal, took the initiative to call on all staff and learners present to spend one day in the garden. It was a bonding exercise for staff and learners,” explained Eurika Otto, an administrator at the school.

According to Perumal, the initiative is linked to the school’s “Go Green Project” which is aimed at planting 40 fruit trees throughout the school premises. “This project was sponsored by The Sathya Sai Organisation of Queensburgh,” said Perumal.

Learners and staff enjoyed being outside where each participant was allocated a spot to adopt which they will look after and clean for the rest of their stay at West Park School,” he said.

“The response from staff was one of excitement. Many of the staff asked if it would be possible to do it regularly,” said Perumal.

“Depending on the weather this venture will be carried out every fortnight,” said the school’s principal.
