Hillcrest runners race to treat the elderly

Even though the race was cancelled, the public can still donate towards the Christmas Day lunch for the senior citizens.

THE cancellation of the race to raise funds for elderly residents did not stop Hillcrest siblings, Ronald and Shayna Smith as they hit the road to raise funds for the cause close to their hearts.

The race was cancelled after the siblings’ running club, Kin Fit, was contacted by KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA) and were told they are not permitted to host a charity social run.

“This is in accordance with their latest circular, although we were disappointed but we had to obey with the rules,” said Ronald.

Shayna said they were deeply saddened by this unfortunate turn of events as all monies received was meant to go towards the support and upliftment of the elderly.

“This event was to financially aid Tafta in providing the elderly with a roast lunch on Christmas day.”

The duo said they were eternally grateful and humbled by the public’s continued support during these tough times.

The duo encouraged the public to support their initiative by donating whatever they can to their venture which was aimed to benefit the elderly people, who are very vulnerable especially at this time.

People who wish to donate can email email info@runningkin.com.
