IIE-Vega students flying high in 2020

The year 2020 is going down in history, a year we will remember, for better or worse.

Lockdown and the covid-19 regulations restricted us in so many ways, but it did not stop IIE-Vega School from re-inventing, innovating and being able to continue delivering wisdomwithmagic. The IIE-Vega achievements from 2020 reflect its ethos, conquering the year with a creative solution seeking and can-do mindset. Vega School is an educational brand of The Independent Institute of Education.

Even though this year was a remarkably challenging one, IIE-Vega have many reasons to celebrate, here are some highlights worth sharing:

  1. Real-world experience going virtual, at grand scale:

For the first time, IIE-Vega implemented an online Brand Activation and Brand Challenge real-client experience, a national collaboration with more than 1200 students combined participating in over 158 teams across all four campuses solving complex brand problems for 51 local and international clients including CIPLA Foundation, Nivea, Tiger Brands, Disney and Unilever to name a few, all done online. Vega also pulled off an interior design collab, going virtual with 35 student teams solving 3 unique design challenges, with the future of Interior Design as the theme.

  1. Local and global collaborations:

IIE-Vega pro-actively participated in industry collaborations. Grid worldwide approached IIE-Vega students to create designs for youth month, granting the winning students a 6-month internship opportunity. International collaboration and recognition saw IIE-Vega students, along with an elite group of universities from Sweden, the US and Brazil participating again in the Microsoft Design Expo: Students presented their design thinking process and prototypes to a high-ranking team of over 100 Microsoft professionals. Design students received a 2020 WorldStar Student Certificate of Recognition as part of the world packaging organisation and IIE-Vega students ended in 3rd place in the National Final of L’Oréal Paris Brandstorm. Three student entries were shortlisted for the Creative Conscience award, an association with universities in the UK, with IIE-Vega identified by the association as one of the top companies in the world. And as a top global achievement, three IIE-Vega students won the highly reputed D&AD New Blood Pencil Award.  The competition received over 3000 entries from over 60 countries.

  1. IIE-Vega taking home top local awards:

The PGBison Competition for Interior Design resulted in two IIE-Vega students in the top-10. IIE-Vega students won the title of “best digital student” at the Interactive Advertising Bureau awards, for a fourth year in a row! Vega School also prides itself with 16 finalists for the Pendoring Advertising Awards, bringing home 4 Pendoring awards; 1 Gold award and 3 Silver awards. Veganites participated in the Loeries Student Portfolio Week:  The Loeries, together with Woolworths hosted an intensive four-week learning and mentorship programme. Three IIE-Vega students were in the top 15 who were selected to pitch to Woolworths. And to end the 2020 year on a high; Vega School achieved 71 finalists for the Loeries Awards, winning 6 Loeries awards: one Gold Award, 4 Bronze awards and a Craft Certificate.
