St Benedict learner spreads hope with Christmas love boxes

After St Benedict School sent out a plea for Christmas love boxes, Grade RR learner's family brought in a 100. The boxes will be distributed by the Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood to street children of Ixopo.

GRADE RR learner at St Benedict School, Hope Moodley (5) made the school’s annual collection of Christmas love boxes extra special this year, bringing in 100 boxes.

Each year, St Benedict School sends out a plea to the community to help them pack the boxes which are then donated to Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood who distribute them.

The love boxes are filled with stationery, clothing, toys, books and treats.

This year, the school collected 200 boxes and will be distributed to street children of Ixopo.

St Benedict head of primary school, Gillian Rayner said they were so thankful to Hope and her family.

“The school sends out letters with the learners and Hope’s family challenged themselves and it Hope’s first year at the school,” said a grateful Rayner.

Hope’s mother, Sumeshni Samuel said her family has a passion for helping the underprivileged and with Covid-19 pandemic, they were not able to do any charity work.

“We saw this as an opportunity to give back and between my family, relatives and clients, we ended up collecting 100. This has been a hard year for everyone and people who donated wanted to bring a smile to someone,” said Samuel.
