A PINETOWN motorist was stabbed and robbed of her cellphone and a substantial amount of cash while stationary at a traffic intersection on Crompton Street on Tuesday night.
“The incident occurred as the motorist was on her way to a local takeaway outlet. She was ambushed by pedestrians on either side of her vehicle as she slowed down in traffic near an intersection,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

“The victim was first distracted by a suspect at the front passenger window. While her attention was diverted a second suspect reached through the driver’s window and pinned a sharp object to her neck before robbing her of her cellphone and wallet containing a large amount of cash,” said Mathios.
“The suspects fled on foot. The victim sustained serious bruising to her neck and face but declined medical attention. Investigations are continuing,” he said.
Warned
“Motorists are cautioned to be extra vigilant at busy intersections in the central business district of any suburb. Slow-moving traffic creates a perfect scenario for opportunistic criminals to strike and get away from motorists stationary behind other vehicles,” Mathios warned.

“The most obvious advice is to keep all valuables tucked away out of sight or locked in the boot and to keep all windows tightly shut and doors locked,” said Mathios.
“Be constantly aware of your surroundings and vigilant of any suspicious characters wandering between the vehicles.” Mathios also warned against using a mobile device while in slow moving traffic.
“Avoid drawing attention to yourself by using your cellphone while in slow-moving or stationary traffic (even if you are just a passenger). Smash-and-grab thieves are always on the lookout for someone who is distracted,” he said.
