Pinetown testing grounds closed for a ‘function’

A Pinetown driving instructor said the decision was inconsiderate for people who have booked in advance for their test.

A DRIVING school instructor is fuming after her learner received a call from the Pinetown Licensing Department, hours before his test, informing him that his test has been postponed due to a function on Friday, 27 November.

Lisa van Zyl said people book for tests in advance and others even take a day off from work or school.

“My learner was called only on Thursday afternoon and was looking forward to it. Surely if they were planning a function they would have organised it in advance and not make any bookings for today,” she said.

According to Van Zyl, one of her friend’s who went today said the whole testing grounds were closed but offices were open for renewing of licences and other services.

“I feel that this was so inconsiderate of them. They still have a backlog due to Covid but have asked people to come back on a Monday for their test, how did they get open spaces so quickly?” asked van Zyl.

The Highway Mail’s attempts to obtain a comment from the licensing department proved futile at the time this story was published.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
