Huge tree raises concerns for Sarnia family

he family fears for the worst as the tree has already damaged part of the concrete fence.

A SARNIA family are facing sleepless nights due to a huge tree that is currently hanging over their house, causing extensive damage.

The issue has worsened and now tree branches are also hanging over electricity and telephone wires outside their home.

Mthokozisi Ntanzi said they have reported the matter to the Parks and Recreational Department seeking to help cut the tree – their attempts to gain help have proven futile.

According to Ntanzi, the tree has already damaged a part of their concrete fence and they now fear the worst.

“The rainy and stormy weather has already started and still the tree has not been cut. Does someone need to die before they deal with this?” he asked.

Ntanzi said they have been trying to deal with this issue for three years and there seems to be no way forward.

According to Ntanzi one of the municipal workers who came to inspect the area told them that their depot was not responsible for their area but they were not given any details of the people that should be contacted.

“Recently, some workers came and removed some branches that were hanging onto the wires. We even fear for cars passing by as the branches are falling on the road,” he said.

eThekwini Municipality’s spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela said all tree branches on municipal property are trimmed as part of the City’s grass cutting schedule.

“Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The relevant Unit has been alerted and we will send out a team,” said Mayisela.
