Methodist Christmas Faire hopes to improve community earnings

Queensburgh Methodist Church hopes the Christmas Faire will help many who have lost opportunities this year due to the lockdown.

QUEENSBURGH Methodist Church is busy planning this year’s Christmas Faire  which takes place at Escombe Sports Club on Saturday, 28 November.

Stalls

“It would be good to have some local churches and clubs join us and book a stall or two,” suggested Rev Casper de Villiers, who said he hoped the faire will provide opportunities for people to earn some money from their arts and crafts and other items which usually do well at the church’s fetes and fairs.

“So many companies have gone under, and so many people have lost their jobs, so we hope those who are handy with their DIY and other skills will book a stall and use the opportunity to sell to their neighbours,” he said.

De Villiers said the long lockdown period, which included closure of the churches, has been very difficult for many of his flock. He has, however, used the opportunity to build up the church’s use of technology to provide virtual service to congregants who would usually attend services every week.

The Queensburgh Methodist Church YouTube Channel publishes regular sermons and recorded services.  “I’ve become far better at being in videos than I was in the beginning,” laughed de Villiers.

Look out for a video clip on our Queensburgh News social media feed of de Villiers speaking about the planned Christmas faire.  Until then, here he is talking about the video sermons and the church’s YouTube channel.
