Car thieves abandon stolen Bellair vehicle

The thieves reversed almost 2km from the crime scene before they gave up on the theft.

A GANG of thieves abandoned a stolen vehicle after reversing it almost 2km away from the scene of the crime in Bellair recently.

The recovery followed a panic activation received from the resident after he witnessed his vehicle being reversed up his driveway.

“The car owner had been alerted by the sound of the engine starting and, on checking, saw his vehicle disappearing off the property,” Mathios said.

According to Blue Security’s media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, an unknown number of suspects were involved in the robbery.

“A quick patrol by a Blue Security armed-response officer resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle. The gear lock was still engaged when the bakkie was recovered, indicating that the suspects travelled for about 2km before abandoning it,” said Mathios.

Bellair SAPS attended the scene and the bakkie’s owner was informed of the recovery. The vehicle will be processed by SAPS.
