WATCH: 6 injured in M7 multi-vehicle accident

Reports from the scene which is now cleared said heavy rain and two accidents caused chaos on M7 Highway for over an hour this morning.

SIX people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident near the N2 off-ramp of the M7, heading towards Durban, this morning.

The traffic, which was already severely affected by the multi-vehicle accident, was exacerbated when the driver of a truck drove across the median, assumingly to avoid the accident scene.

Speaking from the scene, Leon Fourie spokesperson for EmerGMed, said all together six patients were transported to  hospitals.

According to Garrith Jamieson, advanced life support paramedic, there were two serious accidents which took place on the M7 during early morning traffic.

“Eight vehicles were involved,” said Jamieson about the first accident before adding, “there is another one right now before Bellville offramp which is causing issues.”

“Traffic was severely affected on the Durban bound carriageway between the Queensburgh Bellville Road entry to the M7 and the bridge where the N2 crosses the M7,” he said.

While only eight vehicles were involved in the first  accident according to paramedics,  tow-truck operator, Warren Day, who was involved in clearing the scene said a total of 11 vehicles were damaged and had to be towed.

“There were just cars everywhere, there were 11 cars, we’ve just cleared the scene right now, the rain is absolutely hectic,” said Day at 8.45am.

“While we were there clearing the scene there was a truck that come from the westbound onto the east bound carriage way but luckily didn’t take out any cars,” he said.
