Westmead worker airlifted to hospital after five ton structure collapses

Four other workers sustained moderate injuries.

FIVE workers were injured at an industrial company in Westmead after a large fiberglass structure collapsed. According to Netcare Limited media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst, Netcare 911 and  Rescuetech paramedics responded to the scene.

Herbst said reports from the scene indicate that a large fiberglass structure, believed to weigh approximately five tons, collapsed injuring five adult male workers in the process. 

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one person had sustained serious injuries while the other four sustained moderate injuries. 

“All five patients required advanced life support intervention to stabilise them,” said Herbst. Due to the nature of the seriously injured patient, a Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance was activated to airlift the man to hospital.
