Turn October pink with CANSA fun run

This year, the event has gone virtual, and as such participants will be able to choose their own 5km route.

DESPITE the restrictions of the South African national lockdown CANSA is committed to safely commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness month with its annual Shades of Pink Fun Run/Walk.

This year, the event has gone virtual, and as such participants will be able to choose their own 5km route on Saturday, 31 October between 5.45am and 19.45pm.

“Whether it is around your back garden or down your favourite promenade, it can be done anywhere as long as you wear pink and have fun. We urge participants to take lots of pictures, post them on social media and tag our pages,” said CANSA’s Community Mobilizer Fund Development Manager, Morne Holloway.

Holloway said the first 200 people to purchase a ticket will receive a goodie bag with a t-shirt and CANSA wrap.

He said the organisation is expecting 500 participants, which is a significant increase compared to the previous fun runs.

Tickets are available for purchase online on Quicket. They can also be bought from the CANSA offices in Umbilo. Tickets costs R50 per person.

The proceeds will be used to cover the operation costs of the organisation, its support groups, transporting patients, taking care of cancer patients, educating the public, among other things.

CANSA, the Cancer Association of South Africa, has been a leader in the fight against cancer in South Africa for decades. CANSA is committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help as well as emotional support they need in the communities where they live.

This is the fourth year that Davenport Square is sponsoring the event.
