Splash out at Westville Conservancy’s plant sale

ADD a brilliant splash of colour to your garden at the Westville Conservancy's indigenous plant sale on Friday, 23 October from 9am to 3pm and on Saturday, 24 October from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

One of the flowers that can add that extra bit of brightness to your garden are pelargoniums. They are versatile as they can be planted in flowerbeds, rockeries, pots, hanging baskets, window boxes and retaining walls.

“For the best results, plant in full sun, but morning sun and afternoon shade will also work,” said the Westville Conservancy's chairman, Jean Senogles.

The plants have low to medium water requirements and prefer well-drained soil with course compost and river sand, if needed.

For best flowering, feed pelargoniums every six weeks with slow-release fertiliser, or with water-soluble fertiliser every two weeks for those in pots.

Deadhead spent flowers and prune it back in spring and autumn to encourage bushy, dense growth.

“We look forward to seeing you at the Plant Depot, Westville Park (Scout Bowl), next to the Civic Centre,” said Senogles.
