Woman (28) sentenced to 10 years for fraud

The woman, who pretended to be a shareholder of a tobacco company, defrauded the victim of R460 000.

A-28-YEAR-OLD woman, who claimed to be a shareholder in a tobacco company in Malawi, has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without a suspended sentence.

According to Westville SAPS communications officer, Capt Elizabeth Squires, the victim was lured into going into business with the accused after they met via a mutual friend.

“The victim invested an amount of R460 000 into the so called venture, but never got any dividends back,” said Squires.

Squires said the investigating officer Det/W/O Ricky Chettiar has been applauded by the station commander, Colonel Moema for securing the conviction.
