UPDATE: Missing Gillitts man found dead, Bellair SAPS investigate

Dhanpall Rajcoomar's lifeless body was found, with his wrists and ankles tied with cable ties, in an abandoned house in Bellair.

POLICE confirmed on Thursday morning that a case of murder is being investigated by Bellair SAPS after the body of a missing Gillitts man was found at an abandoned house on Mount Vernon Road in Bellair.

“This morning, at 8am, the body of a 52-year-old man was found with his hands tied behind his back and legs tied with cable ties,” said KZN SAPS spokesperson, Cpt Nqobile Gwala.

According to Gwala police are still investigating what lead to the man’s death.  

52-year-old Dhanpall Rajcoomar from Gillitts was reported missing on Tuesday at Malvern SAPS.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reported being contacted by Rajcoomar’s family late on Tuesday evening after he failed to return home after having gone to Bellair.

Rajcoomar, who ran a truck for hire business, was expected to meet a customer outside Bellair SAPS.

The customer he was supposed to have met told members of RUSA they were looking to hire his truck to pick up a window frame in Bellair.

Missing posters were circulated on Facebook and other social media.

His family made enquires and obtained CCTV footage which showed someone other than him driving the truck.

After his vehicle was found in the area, family and members of the community formed a search party and set out to find him. 

The mobile phone he had with him when he went missing was reportedly switched on but rang without answer.
