‘Drug users and dealers take heed’ say police in Queensburgh

Police in Queensburgh are putting drug users and dealers on notice saying they are going to crack down on anyone involved in the drug trade.

STATION commander at Malvern SAPS, Lt Col Val Reddy has issued a warning to anyone involved in the drug trade while congratulating her officers for recent the arrest of known dealers in the Queensburgh area.

“Drug dealers or abusers take heed! We will be coming after you,” warned Reddy as Malvern SAPS communications officer, Sgt Sthembile Kheswa relayed news of a series of arrests recently.

 

Malvern

Malvern SAPS crime prevention unit have been working to rid the community from drugs in a series of operations which led to the confiscation of large quantities of drugs recently.

An operation under the supervision of Cpt Mano Govender saw he and Sgt Pravesh Singh, Cst Lavern Gounden and Cst Nelson Moodley responding to information while out patrolling which took them to the address of a known drug dealer near the M7 shacks in Queensburgh recently.

“Observations were immediately held near the entrance of the M7 Shacks,” said Kheswa.

“It was noticed by the members that a various number of people were coming in and out of the house.” 

Kheswa said the team went towards the shacks and entered the premises introducing themselves as police officials.

“Upon searching the house, they found heroine, illegal ammunition and dagga. The suspect was placed under arrest immediately and transported to the Malvern SAPS and charged accordingly,” said Kheswa.

“Observation is the part of our duties as crime prevention,” explained Kheswa. “Malvern SAPS is committed to removing drug criminals from our streets and community.”  Lt Col Val Reddy, Station Commander at Malvern SAPS said she was very pleased by the work of her crime prevention unit.

“This is an excellent arrest of a known drug criminal in the community. We hope that the investigation will lead to a successful conviction,” she said.

 

Bellair

In another operation, this time led by  officers from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit suspects were arrested in Bellair and Seaview and a large quantity of drugs confiscated.

“Due to the perseverance of the Unit, a suspect was nabbed in possession of drugs at Bellair,” said Cpt Nqobile Gwala spokesperson for the KZN SAPS. 

“The team proceeded to Seaview where a sting operation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man,” she said. 

“The suspect was found in possession of 91 pieces of rock cocaine and 7 large moons of rock cocaine,” said Gwala adding that the estimated value of the drugs at R27 000.

Gwala said the suspect would be facing charges of dealing in drugs at Durban Magistrates case adding that  KZN’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended team for the recovery of the drugs.

 

Cocaine

Meanwhile, Malvern SAPS pulled off an arrest in Northdene after receiving information about a suspicious vehicle escorting drugs in the area.

“W/O Munsamy and Cst Joash Govender who were out on patrol in a marked vehicle spotted a vehicle fitting the description from the information received earlier, while they were travelling along Main Road, near Northdene,” said Sgt Kheswa.

Kheswa said the officers stopped the vehicle which had two occupants inside.  “They were requested to jump out of the vehicle. Upon searching one suspect was found to be in possession of cocaine and cash,” said Kheswa.

“Suspect was placed under arrest immediately and transported to the Malvern SAPS and charged accordingly. Drugs and cash recovered were entered on the exhibit register,” she added. 

“Well done to our members for following up the lead in a professional manner. We say No to drugs!”
