Hillcrest SAPS open murder docket after police discover missing man’s body under bridge

The discovery of Leighton Agg's body has resulted in a case of murder being registered and investigated at Hillcrest SAPS.

HILLCREST SAPS is reportedly investigating the murder Leighton Agg, whose stabbed body was found lying under a bridge last night.

The shocking discovery was made a week after he went missing.

Police had treated the case as a kidnapping.

The focus of the search for Agg was moved closer to where his vehicle had been found abandoned in the Alexander Road SAPS, Pietermaritzburg, policing precinct.

According to KZN Media Centre spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, police officers from the Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue unit were among those who were conducting a search near Cramond.

Mbele said before his body was found on Wednesday night, specialised search and rescue police, along with local police and a private security company had been searching in the Cramond area following leads on the whereabouts of Agg.

Agg’s body was found at the Umgeni River bridge on the Ottosbluff Road, outside of Pietermaritzburg last night (7 October), at which time an arrest was made by the SAPS.

“The investigation led them to where a body was spotted lying under the bridge in the water. He sustained stab wounds to the body,” said Mbele.

Highway Mail  reported earlier this week that the 42-year-old Upper Highway resident, who was last been seen in Winston Park shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, 30 September, was still missing.

“The body was identified as Leighton Agg (42), ” said Mbele. “A suspect has been arrested and more arrests are imminent.”
