3 appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court on corruption charges
The three suspects are in court this afternoon in connection with the corruption charges.
THREE of four suspects, who were wanted in connection with corruption charges, were arrested today, (2 October) and are appearing in court this afternoon.
“The Investigating Directorate arrested three of the four people sought with warrants of arrest issued for all four this morning,” said Sindisiwe Twala, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Investigating Directorate, just before 2pm.

Twala said the arrests were made in connection to charges relating to the manipulation of the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) tender system a decade ago.
The tender manipulation in 2010, which the three are charged for, amounted to R47 million.
“The last accused has been spotted in Cape Town and will not appear with the others as he has not been arrested yet,” she explained.
The suspects were expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s court this afternoon.

“The arrested persons have all been charged with multiple counts of corruption. While three of them face five counts of fraud, two counts of forgery, one count of uttery,” she said.
Under common law, ‘uttering’ is when a person offers a forged instrument, as genuine, with the intent to defraud, according to Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute.
Two of the accused are implicated in tender irregularities arising from the 2010 Fifa World Cup tender.
One of the accused had just recently failed in an attempted bid to have the High Court in Pietermaritzburg quash the same charges.
