The Benefits of a Beautiful Smile

There's something about a beautiful smile that lights up a room.

Even if you’re not in the same room as one person, seeing them smile during a video call is likely to warm your heart.

There are numerous benefits to having a stunning smile. Oral hygiene is about far more than having fresh breath. Here are a few reasons why you should work towards having a gorgeous grin:

Smiling Is Contagious

The one thing we could all benefit from is a bit more positivity. Whether you’re taking a picture to share with a loved one, or joining colleagues for a virtual meeting, the best gift you can give them is a genuine smile. Think about the last time someone smiled at you. There’s a good chance you flashed your pearly whites right back at them. More often than not, smiling back at someone is an automatic response. There’s no planning on our part — it’s a subconscious response to seeing someone display genuine love, joy or happiness.

Smiling Makes You Happier

The University of Kansas conducted an interesting study with more than 100 participants. The participants had to undergo two tasks: one was mentally stressful while the other took a physical toll. All the participants had a chopstick in their mouths. Some held the chopstick in a way that produced a genuine smile, while others held it in a way that produced what looked like a fake smile. The last group held the chopstick in a way that produced no smile at all. When the participants’ heart rates and stress levels were measured, those who produced genuine and fake smiles were less stressed than those with no smile at all. So even a fake smile can do you a world of good.

Smiling Makes You Look Younger

Frowns, scowls and grimaces aren’t the most inviting facial expressions. But a smile has the tendency to make someone look more attractive. But it does a little more than that. An authentic smile can even turn back the hands of time. According to WebMD, smiling also gives you a youthful appearance. Citing a study done by a psychology journal, the health publication found that humans tend to estimate that those who smile regularly are younger than they actually are. So before you embark on an anti-ageing routine, maybe you could start by smiling more often.

How Do You Get a Better Smile?

It’s easy to assume that cosmetic dentistry is the most effective course of action for a better smile, but that’s not necessarily true. Practising simple oral hygiene hygiene can go a long way in enhancing your smile. Flossing after every meal, and brushing your teeth at least two times a day can give you a smile that rivals a Hollywood celeb’s grin. And if instead of using toothpaste and mouthwash separately, you can get the best of both worlds with the closeup Deep Action range. The toothpaste range is infused with active mouthwash to give you long-lasting fresh breath and whiter teeth. So, what are you waiting for? Let your smile out. It makes you happier, and adds a lot more warmth to the world.
