FEW people who report a theft out of their car to police feel confident in ever seeing their goods again.
However, one Malvern resident was pleasantly surprised when police managed to retrieve items taken from her vehicle including clothing, shoes and camping chairs.
According to the communications officer for Malvern SAPS, Sgt Sthembile Kheswa the vehicle had been broken into while parked at the woman’s home in Daisy Road.
“She parked her vehicle and went into her home,” said Kheswa adding that she had locked her car and ensured all the windows were closed.
“The following day when she returned to her vehicle she noticed her vehicle had been broken into. Various items were taken from her vehicle, from clothes and shoes to camping chairs and more,” said Kheswa.
However, a detective from Malvern SAPS, Det Sgt Protas Sibaya, who was driving in the Queensmead industrial area noticed a man walking along the railway line near Burlington Station, carrying various items.
“He stopped and approached the man, identifying himself as a police officer,” said Kheswa.
“The man immediately started running away with the items. Sgt Sibiya gave chase and apprehended the suspect,” said Kheswa.
“When Sibaya took the arrested man to Malvern SAPS, he found out that a case of theft out of motor vehicle had been registered early that morning and that all the goods recovered belonged to the complainant,” explained Kheswa.
