WATCH: Local ballerinas share message of hope through dance

Let's help spread their message of hope during Covid-19 by sharing their video far and wide!

IN these trying times, with depression and anxiety on the rise, Michele Pope du Preez of Michele Pope’s Studio of Dance, recently undertook a music video project to send a message of hope and upliftment to the community.

In collaboration with Karen Drake’s Dance Studio, these exceptional dance teachers gathered 50 dancers at Giba Gorge to shoot the video after only three weeks of rehearsal.

Set to the exquisite melody of Lauren Daigle’s Rescue, the performance, which is being shared far and wide on social media, was not without challenges.

Strict social distancing protocol was followed, and only during dancing did the dancers remove their masks.

There was also a limit on how many dancers could perform to ensure no damage was inflicted on the eco-structure.

“It was never about a perfect performance,” said Michele, “but rather about the message. We want the community to know that we are never alone. Together we can get through this.”

The dancers, ranging from 10 to 50 years old, rose to the challenge beautifully and learned both the choreography and the sign language in record time. The end result is a stunning visual performance and well worth a watch.

The studios thanked the videographer, Tyrone Brockton, for donating his time and expertise to the project.
