The very first Mr Supranational event was held in 2016, with Mexico taking the coveted title.

Due to Covid 19, the crowning and event will take place in 2021 in Poland.

“Having being chosen as the Mr Supranational South Africa 2020 is certainly a dream come true for me. This is a stepping stone to success and I shall use this life changing platform to both enhance myself and to give back to those less fortunate than myself in South Africa,” said the excited Birbal.

Birbal said he started modelling because he always had a passion for fashion. “Due to the fact that I am 1.9m tall, I always thought that I would meet the requirements to be a ramp model. I saw this as an avenue to express myself,” he said.

The legal practitioner is not new to the modelling industry as he was the first runner up in the Mr India South Africa 2016 pageant.

“Subsequently, I have been acquainted with the brand and have since been in charge of the legalities and men’s styling and grooming which led to me being selected as the Mr India South Africa ambassador,” he said.

He mentioned the highlight of his modelling career was being selected out of the hundreds of people to model at the Africa Fashion Exchange show held in Durban.

“This allowed me to model for some of Durban’s best local designers.”

He said his key characteristic is being able to balance and prioritise.

“I work 8am to 5pm as a legal practitioner and do modelling as a hobby and passion. There are 24 hours in a day and I believe that every minute counts. I try to do as much as possible in my time which often leads to very minimal hours of rest,” he added.

Hence his motto, ‘ you only live once so why not give your 100 per cent every day in everything that you do.’

Birbal added that he is a huge football fan and enjoys playing indoor soccer, as well as going to the gym.
