New editor takes over Highway Mail stable

Meet the new group editor for the Highway Mail stable.

WITH more than two decades of experience under her belt coupled with her deep passion for community journalism, Corrinne Louw’s titles as both a journalist and editor has equipped her with the skills required to steer the respective newsrooms working under her leadership.

Louw’s introduction into the media world began at the Northglen News, a sister publication of the Highway Mail and Berea Mail, in 1998 as a cub reporter.

Her experiences at this publication was the beginning of her trajectory as she went on to work at both national and community newspapers.  While working at media houses that included Kwana Publications, Sowetan, Avusa Media’s Sunday Times and the New Age, Louw was able to churn out stories that covered the length and breadth of KZN.

Louw’s hands on approach merged with her commitment to the Caxton brand and excellent news sense is the winning formula to maintain the hyper-local editorial content for both our print and online mediums.

Speaking about her new role, Louw said, “My plan and vision is simple – continue delivering quality, hyper-local news to our readers who, over the years, have grown to love and trust our papers.”

“Our online platforms deliver breaking news 24/7 and this will be a trajectory I plan to strengthen for online. For both our print and online platforms, my focus is to ensure each community, in which we are embedded, sees us as the go-to publication to share their news with. Share with us the stories of the Gogos playing soccer, of your grandmothers running knitting clubs or your children excelling at school or on the sports field. These are the stories we love to tell along with all the current news events shaping our country. We want to hear from you. Call us, email us, inbox us, but whatever you do get in touch with us.”

Nicole Vosser, the business manager for Caxton Durban said Louw’s passion for online lent to the decision of appointing her as group editor.

“Corrinne’s passion, dedication and commitment to making sure our newspapers are always produced to the highest standard assisted hugely when making the decision to appoint her as editor for Berea Mail, Queensburgh News, Highway Mail alongside the Northglen News.

“She is extremely passionate about our online platforms and I believe her enthusiasm to embrace new technology and think ‘outside of the box’ will ensure that our local newspapers continually evolve,” said Vosser.

Louw added that while the role has been challenging she was pleased to already have the support of all the teams that allow for the continued delivery of hyper-local news to our communities.

American author, John C Maxwell once said, “Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course,” and the Highway Mail team is confident that our new group editor is going to do just that and more.
