Put your writing skills to the test

Submit a fictitious 3 000-word story and you could stand the chance to win R2 000 from the South African Writers' Circle.

LET your imagination run wild with the South African Writers’ Circle 60th anniversary writing competition.

The competition is open to all writers and each submission needs to be an original piece of fiction that is no more than 3 000 words of text that illustrates the changes in societal and/or literary norms between the 1960s and the present. Politics are to be excluded.

The closing date is on 30 September this year and first prize is R2 000, R1 000 for second place and R500 for third place. It costs R100 to enter for non-members and R50 per entry for members.

The fee for non-members will include SAWC membership for the balance of 2020 and it must be paid in South African Rands, net of any bank charges. Multiple entries are allowed per person but the entry fee must be paid separately for each entry. Winners will be announced within four weeks of the closing date. Each entry will be professionally judged.
