Women invited to gear up for KZN cycling event

Entries for the event will close on 23 September and due to the Covid-19 parameters, no late entries for the event will be accepted.

The KZN MTB Spring Queens Classic, which is the first KZN cycling event since the lockdown, will take place at the Shongweni Club on Sunday, 27 September 2020.

This mountain bike marathon event will be limited to entry by ladies only; young and old, competitive or simply those that like to ride their bikes.

KZN Cycling chief operating officer, Alec Lenferna said there is an entry limit of only 250 women.

“Although there have been a number of virtual types of races and events staged these past few months, this is the first opportunity for riders to physically get out there and race against their compatriots, or simply be part of the process,” said Lenferna.

Due to its non – contact nature, cycling is one of the few sporting codes given a dispensation to be able to start staging events and activities again from the beginning of September, and organisers are excited to start seeing riders being able to take part in competition again, albeit with some agreed to parameters.

Lenferna said strict guidelines have been agreed to with the relevant government departments, and competitors will need to adhere to some new elements at events for the foreseeable future, for their safety as well as for all others involved.

“The Spring Queens Classic will see two distances being offered to the entrants, a 20km and a 40km route in the area around the Shongweni Club near Hillcrest with the brief given to the course builders to ensure that the routes are challenging enough for those that are going to go out hard and fast, but also rideable by all,” explained Lenferna.

The entry fee for the event is R120 for the 20km and R150 for the 40km race and entries are open at www.roag.org.

Entries for the event close on Wednesday, 23 September and it is important to note that due to the Covid-19 parameters, no late entries for the event will be accepted.
