Pay your bills, or face disconnection, says Durban municipality

The City said that there is a debt relief programme available to those with existing debt.

THE eThekwini Municipality has warned residents to pay their municipal bills or face possible disconnection.

In a statement, the City said that while it understood that many sectors of the economy have been severely impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it remains firm on its stance to implement the Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy and disconnect the services of customers who do not pay.

The head of the Revenue Management Unit, Peet du Plessis, said the debt relief programme is a feasible option for customers with debt that is outstanding.

“We appreciate customers coming through to pay their bills and we encourage those with debt 90 days and over to take advantage of the relief programme that will expire in December 2020,” said du Plessis.

Residents can  pay their bills at any municipal customer care centre, Sizakala centre, third party payment agents, the post office, via EFT or electronically to the City’s Nedbank account.

The option to pay through Masterpass is available to residents who are registered on the e-Services portal.

Bills can also be paid through a debit order arranged with the municipality.
