Browns’ School makes desperate appeal for funds

Browns’ is a school for children with special needs.

Its mission is to give children the skills, confidence and hope for a better future, by promoting their holistic development, through the specialised help they receive in a nurturing, caring environment.

The school’s income development director, Jane Noble said as much as they are a government school, the funds they receive from the department covers only a portion of the costs for running the school.

“We also rely on school fees but due to the pandemic, many parents are struggling with a reduced income, thus the school fees have dropped drastically and continue to drop,” said Noble.

Due to the lockdown regulations, Noble said they were unable to host three of their biggest fundraisers for the year.

She said the Golf Day, Fete and Wheels and Heels Rally are the biggest events they host every year to boost the school’s income.

“This year, we had to cancel all of them. We tried seeking help, and have applied for grants in various organisations, but we have not received much funding yet.”

Noble said some of their staff are paid out of the school budget which needs to be raised by the school fees and fundraising.

She said over the years the school has been offering excellent services and that they will do everything they can to be able to continue to do so.

“We appeal to the Highway community to continue supporting us especially during this time. Every bit helps,” said Noble.
