In focus with Highway Mail (August 2020)

THE Highway Mail is calling on its readers, both young and old, to send through photos they’ve taken during the week that stand out for them.

The photos could be of nature, flowers or just breathtaking scenery. You don’t have to be a professional to feature in the paper or on our Instagram account (@highwaymail).

Each week, the newspaper will publish photos from one of its readers on our social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

Can you guess the name of this plant photographed at the Hillcrest EduFarm where nature and the importance of plants is part of the pre-school experience? With so many homes and families afflicted by illnesses, we should appreciate that there are plants that can help protect against diseases such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. The leaves and tuber from this plant have powerfulantioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogentic properties. If you have not guessed the name by now, it is Turmeric. Jason McCall snapped a photo of a spotted bush snake he found in an outside wash basin, protesting any interference. After a few snaps and whips, he said the lovely creature was gently moved to the nearest tree.
