ST Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s primary school SPAR Star of the Month is Grade 5 learner, Alexia Horcicka.
During lockdown, a time when so many families were been financially affected, Alexia decided that she wanted to help give back where she could.
Alexia has a big heart for animals so she went through her cupboards at home, selected clothing and toys that she no longer used and donated them to the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s second-hand thrift store. The money from her items will be used to look after and feed the animals at the SPCA.
Alexia then put her baking skills to the test to raise money for those less fortunate. She baked a delicious array of treats such as brownies, cupcakes, banana bread, popcorn, chocolate marshmallows and other savoury items. With the money raised, she purchased everyday essentials such as food items, water, blankets and pillows and handed them to those in need.
“Everyone was so grateful and it made my heart so happy to know that I was helping others. What a great feeling!” said Alexia.
