Top maths tuition centre offer free lessons

The lessons, which will be offered at Kip McGrath Westville, Kloof and Pinetown branches, will focus particularly on lessons children would have been taught during the four-week closure period.

LEARNERS have lost valuable time of their school year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

To help learners make up for some of the lost time, Westville educational centre owner, Jenny Schuss is offering free lessons to learners from Grade 1 to 12.

Even though there are schools that are offering online classes, Schuss said everyone is battling at the moment.

“Everyone is worried and most people cannot afford to pay for extra lessons. Some parents struggle to help their children with their school work because of work and other commitments. I am a mother myself and sometimes work keeps me so occupied, how about other parents who are not even in the teaching industry,” she said.

Schuss said it pains her that there are so many children who are behind with this year’s curricular.

The gap that the closure of school is creating will lead to inequality and Schuss said she feels as if the country is going backwards which is not fair for the children.

“Everyone deserves to be educated. I am very driven by Nelson Mandela’s quote, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’,” she said.

In her venture, Schuss, owner of the Westville branch of Kip McGrath, has managed to get 24 teachers on board.

What’s more, companies from around the Westville area have also agreed to sponsor.

In the Westville educational centre they will take 120 learners from around the area, 10 per grade.

“Learners will be given individual attention, there will be five learners in class at a time, one lesson will take two hours. We will be adhering to lockdown regulations.”

She said her wish is to go into the township and valley areas.

“I want this to be a community project, there are Kip McGrath centres all over and I am so glad to announce that the Pinetown and Kloof branch are also on board.”

Schuss said she wants to create hope in the communities and bring people together. With this in mind, Schuss has asked businesses and passionate teachers to support the educational centres.

“I hope this will have a ripple effect. I am very grateful to the teachers and the sponsors who willingly donated shirts, paper and vouchers for teachers,” added Schuss.

The lessons are provided on a booking basis, in the areas where a person resides. Charmaine Hollins from Kip McGrath Pinetown said this was an easy decision to make during these difficult times.

“We are passionate about teaching children and building up their confidence at school.”

The Pinetown branch will also be giving free lessons to 120 learners. Bill Cuthbert, owner of the Kloof branch said the focus subject of the lesson is maths, particularly the aspect/section the children would have been taught in this four week closure period.

“In the Kloof branch we will take 10 learners per grade from Grade 1 to 11. There will be two qualified teachers per two hour session,” he said.

For bookings in Westville, contact Jenny on 082 332 1586 or the office on 031 267 2734.

The Pinetown community can contact Charmaine on 031 702 6833 or email pinetown@kipmcgrath.co.za.Kloof residents can contact Bill on 031 764 0459.

Parents can also book the centres’ individual facebook pages; Kip McGrath Westville, Kip McGrath Pinetown and Kip McGrath Kloof.
