Reward offered: Help CROW hunt down the Malvern eagle-shooter

CROW, a Durban wildlife rehabilitation centre, is offering R5000 to anyone who has information on the shooting of a crowned eagle.

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) is offering a reward for anyone who can provide information which might lead to the arrest and prosecution of the person who shot a crowned eagle in the area on Sunday, 26 July.

CROW volunteer, Zoe Dougall, went to Malvern after a resident reported the incident to the centre.

There she rescued the injured bird from the roof of a house in Hillside Avenue in Malvern.

The bird had sustained with three pellet gunshot wounds.

Despite the best efforts of the clinic at CROW, the eagle had to be humanely euthanised.

“Unfortunately since the bird was shot with a pellet gun, it won’t be easy to trace the weapon used,”  said Sue-Ann Shutte, senior clinic nurse at CROW.

The rehabilitation centre is offering a R5000 to anyone who has details about the shooting.

On their Facebook page, they urged residents to come forward with information: “Do you know who shot this majestic bird? Do you have proof? Get in touch!”

“Our long-standing partner Compass Medical Waste Services’s Iain Du Randt has put forward R5000 reward money for anyone who has credible information that could lead to the prosecution and arrest of the perpetrator,” said CROW spokesperson, Alexandra Kögl.

“He will also be covering any legal costs that will come with the case,” she continued.
