Intra-provincial travel for leisure now allowed

Accommodation establishments, that are permitted to operate under level 3, can now also accept guests who are travelling intra-provincially for leisure.

IN a statement by Tourism Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, she noted that Cabinet has eased the restrictions regarding leisure travel.

She said that under the previous level 3 restrictions, residents were unable to leave their homes for leisure purposes and with the release of the new regulations, individuals are now permitted to leave their homes for leisure purposes within the province they currently reside in.

“Let me emphasise, it is only intra-provincial travel, not inter-provincial travel. Individuals are still not permitted to travel between provinces for leisure purposes,” said Kubayi-Ngubane.

She noted that this change in regulations would allow accommodation establishments, that are permitted to operate under level 3, to accept guests who are travelling intra-provincially for leisure.

This is subject to a maximum of two people per room, except for a nuclear family (parents and their children).

Establishments are already legally obliged to require and keep a copy of proof of identity.

Kubayi-Ngubane said short-term home rental/sharing establishments must remain closed.
