DSW officially shuts down Kloof Recycling Depot

Residents are urged to make use of recycling points in the Upper Highway area.

THE Kloof Recycling Centre in Molweni Road will officially close on Friday, 31 July.

The eThekwini Municipality’s spokesman, Msawakhe Mayisela, said its operations would cease on the aforementioned date due to a site upgrade.

“Residents are encouraged to continue utilising orange recycling bags to recycle waste,” said Mayisela.

Recyclable bottles can be dropped off at the bottle bank at the intersection of Pioneer Road and Wyebank Road.

Ward 10 councillor, Tex Collins welcomed the move and referred to the Kloof Recycling Depot as ‘unhygenic’ and ‘hazardous’.

In a previous interview with the councillor, he also noted the closure was promised to take place as early as January this year.

“We have bittersweet feelings, as our hard work to establish a clean well-run site in 2011, and later to witness in our absence a steady decline to the present state, leaves us sad, but also in a way relieved. We as a group of volunteers look forward to establishing a new local offering that will only allow clean recyclables to be left by responsible people at our facility,”  said The Kloof Project’s Sandra Wickee.
