Kloof Round Table’s heart-warming campaign continues

If you would like to be involved in the organisation's Winter Knights project, in-kind donations can be made at two venues in the Kloof area.

THROUGH its Winter Knights project, and the generosity of the Upper Highway community, the Kloof Round Table was able to donate 60 blankets for a local children’s home.

“Tholuthando Children’s Home was identified as one of the recipients and what a welcome we received,” said Kloof Round Tabler, Matthew Helm.

Located in the heart of Embo, the home is cared for by Sindy Duma and her daughter, Sma.

Initially built by Group 5 several years ago, the home now cares for 55 children who are between two days to 18 years old.

Helm said that everything is shared among the children, from clothing to bedding and meals are prepped and served in the communal kitchen and dining room.

“The centre is in need of attention at the moment. While there, we learnt that only one of the three washing machines was functional and that the fire hose was badly damaged. The most recent storm also left them without power for a few days but thankfully they have their gas stove to ensure that meals could still be cooked,” said Helm.

The Winter Knights campaign is a national Round Table initiative where warm clothes and bedding, as well as non-perishable foods, are collected and donated to those who are less fortunate.

In-kind donations for this campaign can be dropped off at Bellevue Cafe in Kloof or at the Klooof Village Mall SuperSPAR.

Helm thanked each person who donated towards the outreach project.
