Social butterflies dress up for Vodacom Durban July

The fashionable Pinetown couple, Win and Mike Wheeler took part in pre-Vodacom Durban July festivities.

WITH 25 Durban July fashion stakes under their belts, Pinetown’s Win and Mike Wheeler were only too excited to once again dress up for a fashion shoot at the Summerveld Racehorse Training Complex, pre-July Day.

The couple, guests of honour of Extreme Model Management, dressed to the theme for this year: Butterflies.

“I designed our outfits around the adrenaline, excitement and the butterflies-in-the-tummy that is experienced by all who attend the big race, from the horses and jockeys to the punters. It is so great that Win and I still have the get-up-and-go to enjoy the July, despite all the efforts of Covid-19 to scuttle the event,” said Wheeler.

The couple arrived at Summerveld at 6am to watch more than 300 horses be put through their paces on the track.

“It was stunning! We can still hear the thundering hooves and feel the shaking ground as they galloped past us at breakneck speed,” he said.

The Durban July, usually hosted on the first weekend of July each year was pushed back due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and will take place this weekend, Saturday, 25 July, behind closed doors at the HollywoodBets Greyville Race Course.
