Round Table reignites flame of hope

From covering the shopping bills of pensioners to gathering much-needed items for the underprivileged, the Round Table Kloof190 is going the extra mile during the lockdown.

DURING June, the Round Table Kloof 190 members held a Burn the Bill event at the Kloof Village Mall Spar.

The Tablers randomly choose an individual who was in the process of purchasing their groceries and paid for them instead.

For added dramatic effect, the bill is then burned.

The Kloof Round Tablers chose to make their difference on a recent pensioner’s day at a local store.

“We wanted to relieve some of the stress caused by grocery shopping for a few of the elderly customers. The onset of Covid-19 has increased the pressure on so many aspects of our lives, and with the elderly being particularly vulnerable, it was decided to focus on them,” said the NPO’s chairman, Kyle Larkan.

The organisation is currently running two outreach schemes in the Upper Highway area, the Covid Food Relief Scheme and its annual Winter Knights campaign, and is in need of assistance from the community to increase the reach of each project.

The Covid Feeding Scheme has the Kloof Round Table members raising funds through donations and the money is used to buy vegetables for worthy causes.

“To date, we have provided relief to several orphanages and places of safety for a few weeks, but there is always more we can do. To make a donation head to our Facebook page where the Zapper code for donations is available,” said Larkan.
