Man arrested with unlicensed gun, detained at Pinetown SAPS

The man was arrested at the KwaMashu Hostel and was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol.

AN eThekwini Inner and Outer West Intelligence driven operation, conducted with the Metro Crime Prevention and Metro Dog Unit, led to the arrest of a man who was found in possession of an unlicensed gun.

The operation took place yesterday, (Thursday, 9 July).

The suspect was arrested at the KwaMashu Hostel and was found in possession of unlicensed 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off and four live rounds.

He was immediately arrested and detained at Pinetown SAPS.

SAPS eThekwini district commander, Major General Vukani Mgobhozi said they are committed to remove all unlicensed firearms from the Durban area.

“This is excellent work done by police members. I encourage the community to continue to work together with the police to remove illegal firearms and criminals from our streets,” said Mgobhozi.
