Pinetown crime: Car thieves thwarted, intruder arrested

The men who were attempting to steal the vehicle fled the scene.

A CAR theft was foiled and one man was arrested in two separate incidents on Thursday morning in Farningham Ridge and Pinetown, respectively.

In the first incident, a patrolling Blue Security officer interrupted the theft of a vehicle.

“As he approached the scene, he noticed an unknown number of suspects interfering with a light delivery vehicle in the middle of the road. The doors of the truck were wide open,” said Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios.

“When the suspects saw the reaction officer, they jumped into another car and sped away,” he said.

The officer noticed that the driveway gate of a nearby home was derailed and woke up the resident. The home owner confirmed that the vehicle, which was removed from his yard, belonged to him.

Pinetown SAPS attended the scene and a case was opened.

“In the second incident, a suspect was apprehended in Pinetown at about 5.30am after Blue Security reaction officers responded to a call of an intruder on a property,” said Mathios said.

When the units arrived at the scene, a suspect emerged from the property and attempted to escape.

“The resident alerted the control centre after hearing a noise outside and saw two intruders in the yard. Unfortunately the second suspect got away,” he said.

“An all-clear was given after a check of the property had been completed. Nothing was stolen or damaged,” he said.
