#schoolsreopening: Thomas More College

Thomas More College’s in-depth response to its learners returning to school during level 3 lockdown.

How many learners are you expecting to have back in the two grades that are allowed to return to classrooms? 
49 Grade 7s and 92 Grade 12s arrived back at school this week.

What measures have been implemented by the school to ensure that social distancing is adhered to outside of the classrooms?
Social distancing markings are outside all classrooms. Videos were sent to all the TMC families. Training has been done with all teachers and support staff. There is teacher reinforcement during the day.

What measures have been implemented by the school to ensure that children have easy access to hand sanitister?
There are hand sanitisers is all classrooms/ bathrooms/ screening points/ all other venues in the school.

Will the school be providing masks for the children who cannot afford their own?
Yes, we will be providing for all children and staff.

Will online learning continue, alongside classroom lessons, for the children who are not in good health to return to classrooms?
Yes, online learning will continue across all grades.

Will children remain in one class the whole day to ensure that children are not exposed to another child’s germs?
Grade 7s – they remain in one classroom per day and the teacher moves around.
Grade 12s – The children do not stay in one class because of subject choices.

What other measures have been put into place by the school with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic?
TMC have set up 3 COVID-19 Screening stations across the campus to cater for all our phases. These have been set up in prefabs. Every child, parent and visitor that comes to TMC must complete a screening questionnaire upon entering the school.

A Health Risk Assessment was conducted on all TMC staff and parents to establish who on the staff or within the pupil body and within their households are at high risk of contracting Covid-19.

All learners are wearing civvies to school to ensure clean clothing is worn every day.

Do you feel the children will be able to continue with the current curriculum having only done home school for two months?
We will continue with the IEB curriculum and nothing will be excluded.
