Help Animal Antics Pet Rescue keep its doors open

The local NPC hopes to continue its weekly food drives in the Valley of 1000 Hills but it is no longer taking in any stray dogs or cats.

DUE to a lack of funds, the non-profit company, Animal Antics Pet Rescue, is closed until further notice.

The directors of the organisation, Sam De Wet and Ally Du Plessis, said there are currently seven dogs and three cats in its care in Botha’s Hill and are wanting to rehome them.

“We don’t want to stop doing what we are doing but we have to concentrate on homing the dogs we have now, and somehow recover from this very hard knock,” said Sam.

The NPC also runs a weekly feeding scheme in the Valley of 1000 Hills where they feed between 450 to 500 dogs each Sunday.

The total cost per week to Animal Antics is between R3 500 and R4 000.

During these drives they also provide deworming tablets and anti-biotics.

Sam said there is an outbreak of canine parvovirus in the valley.

It is a highly contagious virus that can be fatal to dogs.

It is spread from dog to dog via direct or indirect contact (via faeces).

“We will host a vaccination clinic in the valley this Sunday as the sponsorship for that has already been received and has been paid for,” she said.

“Our feeding scheme will keep on going as we can’t just stop. If we stop feeding the dogs now, they are all going to starve.”

The NPC has a R4 000 bill at a vet in Hillcrest and a R2 000 bill at a veterinary practice in Everton.

“Our beautiful Indi has to go to the vet for an assessment and possibly surgery to remove a big mass on her one teat. We don’t know how we will afford this either,” said Sam.

Sam has not worked since lockdown was initiated and Ally is currently the only person in her family who is working at the moment due to the lockdown.

“We thank everyone for their amazing support and always standing behind us. We will be posting some items that we have for sale to try raise funds. So please keep an eye open for that,” she said.

The NPC is in need of blankets, dog food, tick and flee treatment and second-hand goods that can be sold to raise funds.
