Help Chic Mamas kick-start reopening of schools

Chic Mama request monetary sponsorships of R160 per child in the three preschools which they support.

CHIC Mamas appeal to the community to help kick-start the first month back at school for  in needy areas.

The Chic Mamas Do Care Durban team have been busy during the lockdown period and have kept in constant contact with the three main preschools they support.

Chic Mama coordinator, Jenny Du Bois, said the teachers have tried to remain positive despite the teachers who own and teach at the schools having had no salary since lockdown forced them to close.

“It has been very tough as Early Childhood Development Centres have not been considered for financial assistance and are not covered by UIF, and will be the last to re-open,” she said.

However, thanks to contributions from the Chic Mama team and generous support from their loyal supporters at their fund-raisers, they have been able to offer a degree of financial help to the schools’ nine dedicated teachers and food to distribute to any pre-schoolers in need.

Du Bois said many parents have lost their income due to Covid-19 pandemic and will not be able to afford fees when the preschools eventually go back.

“Looking ahead, our heart is for every child to get back to school and we’re looking for ways to secure sponsorship for those of our 110 preschoolers whose parents will not be able afford the R160 monthly fee,” she said.

“To be able to kick-start the first month will be a game-changer, help to cover salaries for the teachers and provide some financial relief to the parents,” said Du Bois.
