Mariannridge man found in possession of R700 000 worth of heroin

The man was released on R30 000 bail and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court in August.

HEROIN capsules with an estimated street value of R708 000 as well as R9 000 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds of drug trade, were seized from a 37-year-old man in Mariannridge.

The man was arrested when police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit were conducting an operation in Mariannridge last Thursday.

KZN police spokesman, Col Thembeka Mbele said police proceeded to Comet Place where the man was arrested after heroin capsules were found in his possession.

“The suspect was taken to Mariannhill police station where he was detained and charged for dealing in drugs.

“He was released on R30 000 bail and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on 11 August 2020,” said Mbele

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest of the suspect and applauded the dedication of the police officers to root out the drug trade.
