Roof access becomes an easy entry point for business burglars

A local security company confirmed nine cases in the Durban area where criminals used a similar modus operandi.

NINE incidents have been reported to Blue Security where criminals have gained entry to or fled via roof access to businesses across the Durban area.

According to Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, the crimes took place in Umbilo, Kingsburgh, Prospecton, Pinetown and Botha’s Hill.

“Swift response and decisive action by Blue Security tactical force, reaction officers and SAPS members led to the arrest of multiple suspects,” said Mathios.

Business owners are urged to ensure that alarm systems, external beams and alarm sensors in ceilings are in good working order.

In one of the local incidents, a business manager spotted suspects on the roof of a Pinetown business premises at night.

“The manager entered the back entrance of the property in the evening and spotted two suspects on the roof. He alerted Blue Security to the scene of the incident but the suspects managed to flee the scene and evade arrest,”  said Mathios.
